Special Services

BCH offers specialized services based on the needs of our patients because our community comes first.

Special Services Include:

Sitter Program
Our sitter program was developed to help decrease the incidence of falls. Patients who are at risk for falls because of age, medication, disease, drugs, history of fall, or weakness are placed on fall precautions, and if needed are provided with a 1:1 sitter. Our specially trained sitters provide 1:1 care for our fall risk patients. They assist the patient with walking and toileting as well as eating. They are available in the room with the patient at all times to protect the safety of the patient.

Discharge Planner
Our discharge planner begins at admission and works with the patient and the family to evaluate the discharge needs of the patient. The discharge planner works closely with the area nursing homes and local home health agencies to help with rehabilitation and home care needs.

Child Life Program
We pride ourselves in patient care and family support. We work closely with Barnwell Pediatrics in caring for our children.

Our Child Life Program provides gifts and entertainment for children while they are hospitalized.

The program also addresses the needs of the parents and even allows parents to have a qualified employee supervise their sick child if they need to leave.

  • Round the clock support to our patients as well as their families
  • Free meals to parents who opt to remain with their child during the hospital stay as well as a parent hospitality pack that provides the essential items needed for parents on an unexpected overnight stay with their child.
  • Our staff provides play activities to include reading, puzzles, games, movies and other play activities
  • Children are given a new toy, when admitted, that is theirs to play with and take home
  • Our Child Life staff provides parent “breaks”; where an employee will remain with your child while you take care of other siblings or just leave to run an errand.

Speak-up Program
Our speak- up program encourages patients to be more involved in their care. It gives patients the right to ask questions and stand up for their needs. We welcome patients to ask questions about their care including inquiries about medication or tests performed.

Medical Interpreters
Interpreters for all languages are immediately available for over-the-phone interpreting 24 hours a day. Clear communication between healthcare professionals and patients is vital to successful medical care. The interpreters are medically qualified, highly experienced, and have undergone rigorous testing to ensure that patients and staff can clearly understand each other.
