The BCH Emergency Department stabilizes hundreds of patients annually and then transfers them by air ambulance to larger medical centers.
Without stabilization, many of these patients would not survive. Those medical facilities recognize the vital role BCH plays in saving lives. We are proud of the number of patients we stabilize and see safely returned to their homes each year.

Fast Track
Fast Track is a program that allows patient evaluation and treatment in a quick manner without compromising the care each patient receives.
When you first arrive, a registered nurse triages you. Triage determines what patients are most in need of attention. The more more critical patients are examined in the emergency department by a physician. The noncritical patients go to the Fast Track area and are rapidly evaluated and treated.

Telepsychiatry
BCH ED has a telepsychiatry consultation service. By collaborating with a state mental health group, our patients can be evaluated and treated by a psychiatrist 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
As a Joint Commission accredited hospital, we are given a S3 rating. S3 ratings provide a quarterly series of risk assessment and comparative performances among Joint Commission accredited hospitals across the nation. For the last two years, our hospital scores have been consistently better than the national and state averages.
